Demolition & Rebuild of Property following Lightening Strike & Subsequent Fire Damage

Introduction

We initially attended this property to carry out emergency make safe and downtaking works alongside Building Control and our appointed Structural Engineer following extensive fire damage within the roof structure as a result of the building being struck by lightning. Our initial works involved removal of the gable walls prior to erection of a scaffold to remove the roof structure down to 2nd floor level.

The project

Following further exploratory works we discovered the lightening had passed down cabling within the timber kit, resulting in other areas of isolated fire damage within the remaining structure. As a result and due to the extent of damage the decision was taken to demolish the structure to slab level.

We were appointed to carry out the demolition works and were subsequently successful with our tender bid for the rebuild of the property. We manufactured and erected the timber kit on site, utilising a crane for installation of the 1t floor panels and attic trusses. As part of the planning application process the property was reinstated with solar panels with the remaining elements being reinstated on a like for like basis.

The internal reinstatement works included five bedrooms, one office, three bathrooms including en-suites, kitchen and utility. Solid oak finishes were installed throughout including an oak staircase, a statement feature in this three storey town house.

They say that lightening never strikes twice, but just in case it did, we installed lightening protection as part of the rebuild works.
