Introduction
Noble Property Solutions was appointed to carry out specialist storm damage reinstatement works at Anchor Mill, a landmark Category A listed building in Paisley. Built in 1886, the six-storey, red-brick mill was home to the largest thread manufacturer in the world, J&P Coats Ltd. It closed in the 1980s and was restored in 2005 into 60 flats and a business centre. The property required a sensitive restoration approach to preserve its historic character while repairing significant storm-related damage.
The project
This project involved replacing several large bespoke arched windows damaged during severe weather. Due to the building’s listed status, the windows were templated and specialist manufacturers were commissioned to replicate the original design in line with the local authority conservation requirements. The manufacturing design was also revised to add structural strength. Extensive access equipment was also required to safely install the new windows within the multi-storey property, with the works completed efficiently and with minimal disruption to residents. Following completion of the first replacement project, we were appointed through the loss adjuster to carry out further replacement projects, with three separate projects completed at Anchor Mill in total.
The successful completion of these projects restored both the appearance and weather protection of one of Paisley’s most recognisable historic buildings. With the use of specialist suppliers, meticulous attention to heritage requirements and effective access solutions, we delivered a high-quality reinstatement that preserved the character of Anchor Mill while ensuring its long-term resilience against future weather events.
